Mystery Diagnosis

Well, those meds the Dr put me on for IBS did not work, if anything it made it worse. So its not IBS. I was sicker than I'd ever been 2 Sundays ago. The best and worst part is that the weight just keeps coming off. I know your thinking, whats your complaint right? Well, really I love that its coming off. Weight has never just come off me before. I worked really hard last year to lose those 30 stupid baby lbs that I needed too, but to be so sick that you continue to lose weight is not healthy, its actually a little scary. (i'm not super skinny so when you see me you wouldn't think I was sick, but losing 10lbs in a month without trying is what has happened.) And usually after you have the stomach flu you lose a few lbs but the minute you feel better and eat its comes right back on right? Well, not with me, not when you can't eat anything or if you do eat then it just comes out.)

So I called the Doc and told him how sick I had been and he said to stop the meds right away and that he wanted to do a stool culture and some more blood work. I thought we were finally getting somewhere. I had to get a culture on a sick day, so it took a few days, but I got it. Trent took me to the hospital right away and I also got some blood work taken. They were testing me for a parasite, any type of bacterial infection, infections, and celiac disease. The wait was horrible, but I actually had a good weekend, one of the best I'd had in a long time. Then finally a call Tuesday morning, NEGATIVE. What!?!?!?!? I was so mad, confused. I felt stupid, I felt like they were calling me a liar, a hypochondriac. But I'm not, i have proof, I am sick.
They said the next step will be a colonoscopy or EGD, there is still a possibility for Crohns, Colitis, Celiac or a few more diseases. Yes diseases. They need some biopsy's of my bowels and a few places and the only way to diagnose those are through the scope. I told her I'd wait for a bit and see what happens. I am at my wits end. I want to be healthy but want to try a few other things before I fork out that kind of money.
But then last week we got a call from Trent's aunt to congratulate him on his award and she asked how we were doing. He explained that I was really sick. She said she knew exactly what was wrong with me, it happened to her 20 years ago. She thinks its my ileocecal valve. The Ileocecal Valve is located between the ileum (last portion of your small intestine) and the cecum (first portion of your large intestine). Its function is to allow digested food materials to pass from the small intestine into your large intestine. The ileocecal valve also blocks these waste materials from backing back up into your small intestine. It is intended to be a one-way valve, only opening up to allow processed foods to pass through. When the ileocecal valve is stuck open waste products can back up into the small intestine (much like a backed up kitchen sink drain) disturbing your digestion and also creating unhealthy toxins that are absorbed into the body that are supposed to go out. Also, if the ileocecal valve is stuck closed waste products are prevented or constricted from passing into the large intestine. She said that in child birth and bad labors and trauma experiences it can get damaged in a way and not close or from emotional situations, hmm have a had a little of that? I think so. And also the way you eat, if you eat to much once its damaged it can reek havoc. So we'll see, who knows if that is it, but I am willing to try anything at this point. The symptoms are flu symptoms, nausea, syncope(fainting), headaches, low back pain, abdominal pain, and more. I have all of that. So we'll see. I have to get a few herbal meds and avoid certain foods for a bit and we'll see. All I know is that I didn't get sick all week. I get nauseous every time after I eat but other than that I had a really good week. So hopefully that's really all it is. And hopefully I can stay feeling good.
If it doesn't work too well on my own then before I go spend $3000 on a colonoscopy I am going to try a homeopathic Dr. I've gone to one before and I honestly think thats why I have children. I was told that I would not be able to have kids or it would take a lot of medical intervention and well, a month after I started to see this certain Dr. I got pregnant with Hudson. Wow surprise. Ruby did take awhile and I was almost ready to take meds but then she finally came. And then well, we all know I was on bc with Harrison and got pregnant. So I am willing to try. I know stomach problems are hard to diagnosis so if we can do it another way and less expensive I am all about it. I will keep you posted because I know you all care. haha
