Many of you know ever since I had Harrison I have been battling with stomach problems. We thought for awhile it was due to all the blood loss and just the traumatic experience to by body and all the infections I had and almost dying after I had Harry. We figured my immune system needed time. But over the past month, ever since I had that last bout of Stomach Flu, or what I thought was the flu, I have not been well. Every couple days, and only at night, I get severe stomach pains, heartburn pain, bloating, nausea, and the runs, I also dry heave and sometimes throw up. Its no fun. I just have to curl up in a ball and wait till my meds kick in for the nausea so that I can fall asleep. The crazy thing is I wake up in the morning and I am fine. I am fine all day and most days but maybe 2 times a week at night I will get an attack. I had one on my b-day, Friday in Park City, and Sunday. I hardly ever eat greasy foods, sugar, for the most part we stick to the no sugar and healthy foods. And on the days of my attacks when I look back at what I ate, I have no idea why I would feel like I do.Well, about two weeks ago, I finally went to the Dr and discussed what was going on because it obviously wasn't normal. He did some blood work and scheduled me right away for an Ultrasound to rule out gallbladder disease. He gave some phenergran for the nausea because that seems to the worst symptom plus it puts me to sleep so that seems to help. The blood work came back normal, he was worried about H. pylori (a bacteria that causes Ulcers) and that was negative thankfully.
So yesterday I went for my US and was so nervous. In a way I was wanting it to be my gallbladder so I'd have a diagnosis and get it over with either by surgery or changing what I was eating (which over the past few weeks is nothing, one good thing out of it is that I keep losing weight.) or getting some meds. Well, I went for my follow-up today and the US came back normal. Both the Dr and I were shocked. He really thought that's what it was and so did I. Everyone I've talked to and when I explained my "attacks" that's what we figured I had.
So we discussed a lot of what it could be, Colitis, Crohns, IBS. My sister has Microscopic Colitis and my cousin has Crohns so its there in the family but my Dr said, neither are a good diagnosis to get and some of my symptoms match and some don't. So he decided to say as of right now he wants to rule out IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome. What?!? Isn't that the stupid diagnosis they give you when they have no clue? I didn't like that at all. But he decided to start at the bottom and work our way up. He said some of my symptoms don't add up to IBS because I am not irregular, only on the days I have attacks but its worth a try. So he put me on Bentyl, a med that I take at the first sign of getting sick and told me to take them for at least a month. If it works then most likely it is IBS, and that means my bowels get inflamed and can't function properly. So if it works then he'd put me on a preventative med. If it doesn't work and I get worse or something then its obviously not IBS and the next step would be to have a stool sample test, and then get a colonoscopy and EGD. Well, I don't want to have those, who does, plus my insurance doesn't pay for anything unless you are hospitalized, and I think those run about $5,000 so that is just more medical bills to add to the already huge ones from Harrison.
Anyways, I guess we're back to square one. I know that whatever is going on with me isn't normal. And I really can't function like this. So hopefully these meds work. If not then its off to more tests.
I am just grateful that I've had 4 great nights so far. My record is a week and half with no attacks. So we'll see. I guess my trial in life is health. I don't know why? I am the lowest weight I've been in years, actually I wasn't this weight in high school, but I was tone and hadn't had kids so my body was TOTALLY differen. I don't eat fatty, fried foods, (ok I did have an IN N' Out burger in St. George, but still, one.) and I eat pretty healthy. I thought losing all that baby weight, 30lbs, keeping it off for a year, and eating healthy would keep me healthy but I guess sometimes your body just still gets sick.

April - this sounds familiar. I was so sick and had severe attacks that would wake me from a dead sleep. It sounds crazy, but go to an allergen specialist. They found that I was so allergic to most foods that since I have cut them out - no problems. It just took the doctors 4 months to finally get me an answer. Let me know. You are in my prayers.
Love ya!
Oh my gosh...that is all that I have to say. Good grief, what a pain!!!
Sheesh girl! hopefully its IBS, I mean not that thats something you want but yes EGD's and colonoscopys are expensive! EGD's aren't that bad, its not hard, but prep for colonoscopies SUCK BAD. I was bawling everytime I had to drink that crap. lol baby. well i'm sorry about all of this, hopefulyl its just a little bug thats stuck in your guts thats trying to get out and that you'll get better.
I know haow it goes with weird things going on with your body. Egs and colonoscopys I know all about that I hope that they van find out SOON!!!! I hope that you just have to do a egd the others are the WORST what you have to drink gag a maget, then what comes after.
oh april, i'm so sorry to hear about all your health troubles. it must be so hard to keep going through one thing after the other. please let me know if you need any help, watching the kids, going with you to the doctor, someone to talk to. i know you have a lot of family around, but just know that i am here.
That is so frustrating! I hope they can figure out exactly what is wrong soon so you can move on and start feeling good again.
I'm sorry you have been feeling so sick. I had the same symptoms a couple years back and it was my gallbladder. My ultrasound came back normal, but they did a "Hidascan" after that (which shows how well your gallbladder is functioning) and it was abnormal. They took it out and I have felt 100% better!! It might be worth asking about, but hopefully it's something that you can fix with some simple medication! Good luck with everything.
i am so sorry. you have already been through so much! hang in there....
I hope you can figure it out quick so you can just live your life! You are so strong and upbeat, stay that way!
You sound like Sheena. You need to talk with Sheena she can relate to all your symptoms and tests. They never could find a diagnosis or treatment that worked. Alternative medicine was the most helpful.
Gosh dang it April~ tell that body to give you a break!!!! I'm so sorry, it must be exhausting. You will be in my prayers every single day my friend, I hope you can get some relief and rest.
