Binky's and potty training

You might all be saying, "WHAT?" Isn't Ruby 2 and she still had a binky? Well, yes and no. Around 16 months or so I only let her have it at nap time and bed time only. Hudson's was gone by about 18 months and it was super easy. But I've hesitated with Ruby, I didn't know how she'd react. I have been meaning to take it away for awhile, but with all the changes we've had lately I just couldn't do that, I needed to get back on our schedule and consistency. So Sunday night I decided it was time. We told her that Princesses don't have binky's only babies do and she said yeah, I'm a big girl. Trent and I put her to bed on Sunday expecting it to be horrible but it wasn't too bad. She did talk till about 10:30,(the binky was the only thing that would shut that girl up) and screamed a few times, but every time we went in there she never once asked for binky she just wanted a book, her blanket, or her baby. She slept all night.
The next day I put her down for her nap, she talked for a bit then I heard her yell, "MOM I have to go pee pee." I laughed and went in and said, "ok if I let you go potty will you go to sleep?" Of course she said yes. So I put her on the potty and low and behold, she went. Wow. I knew she wouldn't go back to sleep after that so I put her on my bed to rest with some cartoons and she feel asleep instantly. She's been doing great ever since. She did ask for her binky yesterday out of the blue and I said, "Remember binkys are for babies." She said, "Yeah, I'm a big girl," and that was that.
Next on the list, potty training. We've tried a bit here and there, and as you can see she's doing pretty good. She goes bare bum for a few hours in the morning and has the potty in her room while she's playing(thanks to Laura for those ideas). She loves to wear her princess panties but forgets you have to take them off to go. The bare bum works because she doesn't take her clothes off yet and so to put panties on her makes it hard because she can't take them off. So we're just taking it slow and I'm trying to be patient because I know she doesn't really understand. Hudson was potty trained a few months before he turned 3, you can read about that here. He just got it. So hopefully it won't take Ruby too long either. Although many of you know that I think potty training is one of the worst things about motherhood. This is the 3rd time I've had to do it, you'd think I'd be a pro. Once when I was a nanny in Santa Barbara, the mom made me get her 15 month old girl potty trained, crazy huh, then Hudson and now Ruby. My babies not a baby anymore, potty training and no binky, it makes me sad.

wow, Ruby is growing up! i'm right there with you with the potty training a 15 month old, I had to potty train Monet, it didn't work and I had to clean up her messes daily, cause Rodessa wouldn't let her wear ANYTHING the ENTIRE DAY! so I feel for you. hang in there, she'll get the hang of it.

Those are some good ideas! I have been struggling with Sydney with the potty training thing for a while now, she was for a week then didn't want anything to do with it. Oh well.

I am in the same boat as you--except for the binki thing. I started potty training Amelia yesterday and I was SO nervous. It's going really good though. I do the bare bum thing too, but today after she didn't have any accidents, I put her pretty underwear on her and now I just hope that she remembers to take them off to go. Good luck with it! Our babies are big girls now!

I'm scared to start potty training Emmy, but I need to start soon. She loves sitting on her potty, but with her clothes on. And she never goes when she's sitting on it bare. Those are some great ideas, I'll have to try them. Good luck! Sounds like it's going great!

Oh potty training! Definitely the worst thing ever! I'm sorry!! Hopefully it will just click for her and not be a big deal. And they do say it's easier for girls than boys... Good luck!!

I really hated potty training Gage. He didn't get it until he was 3 and a half, and when it did happen I swear it was a miracle, something just clicked and it was permanent. I don't look forward to potty training Parker. I'm really hoping that he will just follow Gage's example.

Good job with the no binky and the potty for Ruby! She really is getting to be a big girl now! :)
