The Christmas Box Angel

I have been meaning to post about The Christmas Box Angel for quite sometime but I wanted to post pictures I took that night, but unfortunately they will have to wait, as I am still not able to post pictures. So I will post now and soon post pictures.

December 6 is Children's Day all over the world. A day to remember those children who have passed on. And every year at 7:00 around the world parents and family and friends gather around the Christmas Box Angel Statue and remember those Children. So Trent and I went to the Angel Statue in Ogden, which just so happens to be where Harrison is buried, that's why we picked that memorial. It was such a special night. Everyone gathers together holding a candle standing around the angel. There was a musical number and then a speaker said a few words. It was a such a spiritual night. Everyone was then asked to place a white flower at the base of the angel and then say the child's name. It was an emotional night. I couldn't help but wonder everyone's story and what had happened to their child and when. It was touching to be in the presence of people who had been through similar things. It was hard for us because it is still so new. We were then able to place a white flower on Harrison's grave as well. It was such a special night and something I feel we will try to do as a family every year.

Below is just a bit of history about the Christmas Box book and the angel statue.

The Christmas Box Angel Statue was introduced to the world in the book The Christmas Box, a worldwide bestseller and hit television movie by author Richard Paul Evans. In the book, a woman mourns the loss of her child at the base of an angel monument. Though the story is mostly fiction, the angel monument once existed but is speculated to have been destroyed. The new angel statue was commissioned by Richard Paul Evans, in response to reports that grieving parents were seeking out the angel as a place to grieve and heal. The monument was dedicated on December 6, 1994-corresponding with the date of the child’s in The Christmas Box (Coincidentally, Dec. 6th is celebrated in many parts of the world as Children’s Day). At the request of ton Paul Byron and Salt Lake City Mayor Deedee Corradini, Salt Lake City donated the land on which the monument stands. The sculpture is the creation of a father and son from Salt Lake City, Utah, Ortho and Jared Fairbanks, and ed according to the description in Evans’ book. The face of the angel is that of Evans’ second daughter, Allyson-Danica. If you look closely you can find on the angel’s right wing (west) the word "hope."
Flowers, sent from around the world, adorn the base of the monument year round, accompanying notes left by parents for their "little angels." On December 6th of each year (7 p.m. MST) a candlelight healing ceremony is held at the base of the Christmas Box Angel monument. After a few remarks, a moment of silence, and the lullaby of a children’s choir, the attendees are invited to leave a white flower at the base of the angel statue.

In addition to the angel in the Salt Lake City cemetery, there are Christmas Box Angels in more than 25 other areas.

Wow April, I am so glad you were able to go to such a spiritual night and meet others who had had similar experiences to yours. Sometimes having an experience that isolates you somewhat from others is hard because you feel like no one really gets what you are going through. That is true to some extent so it helps to meet others who have been there too. I have been to the angel in SLC but I didn't know there was a memorial in Ogden as well. Hope you are getting settled in your new home and that you'll have time to do a little decorating before Christmas. And a little baking too! Talk to you soon!
