Chichen Itza and the Cenotes

Our little group took an excursion to Chichen Itza, the Mayan ruin pyramids. It was so cool. They are huge and there are so many of them. You can no longer climb them however because someone died a few years ago and its also become one of the 7 man made wonders of the world.
Trent is standing in front of the pyramid things that also has over 1000 statues/pillars, our little group liked to call them the 2000 stripling warriors because that's what we had heard. Kind of interesting huh. They go on and on forever, I swear there had to be 2000. Many of them have fallen down.
We are standing in front of the famous pyramid, it was amazing. I am kind of glad you can't climb it any more, some the steps are missing and its more straight up and down than it looks and there is no rail to hold onto.
Here we are in front of the 2000 warriors. They were so so cool.
Read below about this, but I finally jumped. I was chicken and didn't jump from up high, but come on there were fish and it was so dark and creepy.
This is a Cenote. It is a large sink hole. It was amazing. This is from the top looking down in.
You climb down about 90 stairs maybe more to get down inside and then you can jump in and swim.
Here I am deciding whether or not I am going to jump. It was so scary.
I made Trent hold my hand. I screamed the whole way down, which wasn't very far. It was so cold and creepy, but refreshing at the same time. I didn't stay in for long.
If you look closely, you can see about 5 guys jumping in at the same time, it was Trent and some of our friends. It was pretty high, one of them even did a back flip.
Also if you look closely you can see these long vines that start at the top and go all the way into the water. You can't hold onto them though. The water is over 150 deep and its dark. The Mayans used these for the dead. It was so creepy. They said this wasn't one of them, but how do they know?

I thought Chichen Itza was pretty cool. I went 4 yrs ago. They actually still let people climb up it so we did, but it was really scary coming back down!!! It's probably a good thing you can't do it anymore.

Oh Fun! Trent and I did that exact same thing on our honeymoon, you take the bus and go to the place and jump in and then go to eat and then go to the ruins, it was so much fun other than the fact that I was in so much pain from my kidney stones. I didn't jump in because I forgot my suit because I was in so much pain, trent did though and I got it on camera. The ruins is where we got that mask that used to be in our living room. (I don't know if you remember)I can't wait to chat with you guys to see what you thought. I am glad you guys had fun!
