So for the past two weeks Trent (because I needed a partner) and I have been doing the South Beach Diet. For the first two weeks, phase one, you eliminate, all sugars, fruits, breads, pasta's, potatoes, rice basically no carbs. You are allowed to have lean meats, low fat cheeses, eggs, most veggies. You are trying to correct the way your body reacts to carbohydrates.Well, our two weeks were up yesterday, so now we are in phase two. We did great. Neither of us cheated once. It really wasn't as hard as I thought. I love bread and carbs and I wanted to change the way I reacted to them both physically and mentally, you rid yourself of the sugar addiction and honestly, I can say now, don't crave the sugars and carbs. It was actually hard to add some things to my diet today. I have PCOS and so this is really the best way for me to lose weight. My Dr. even told me its best if I follow a diet with the Glycemic index, and he was right it is working.
Starting today, we can finally add fruits, (no banana's, watermelon, or pineapple, way high sugar content), fat-free sugar-free yogurts, and whole wheat carbs, (no potatoes, white breads, pasta, rice). We have to do it gradually and slowly. Still no sugar, which is fine, I don't really miss it. Its not hard to say no to now.
One thing Trent said, was that this definitely is a life style change that he likes. We even ate out 4 times and made great choices and it was easy. One bragging point I have was that three days after I started I was in charge of the Relief Society B-day party which consisted of dinner of course, chicken salad in croissants, costco cake, fresh fruit and I didn't even cheat. I just had salad and the inside of the croissant. I am proud of myself.
Once you get to phase three you are allowed whatever but its moderation. Your body will react differently if you have sugar and an occasional dessert or potato. But if you ever gain some back you can just go to phase one for a week and then straight to phase 3.
Well, I am proud to day, I lost 8 lbs in two weeks and Trent the same, we both can see and feel the difference. I can button comfortably my next size pants and my shirts are lose around the middle. I want to lost more, but I look and feel good. I know I will definitely be able to lose the rest by our trip at the end of April. Trent can buckle his belt one lower almost two lower. What I love is that you lose belly fat first which is what I needed, especially after two kids. Trent's belly is gone, he didn't really even have one, but its flat now. I still want to lose more so I am going to be very cautious about how and when I eat these foods. Still no sugar or refined carbs, which is fine, I actually don't miss it. I don't even crave them anymore. I just have a 40 calorie sugar free fudgesicle or sugar free jello and I am fine. My plan is to have one or two fruits a day and then one carb, and a yogurt for now, I want to do it slowly because I still want to lose weight. The nice thing is you will continue to lose weight but more slowly now. So here's to a few more weeks.

Good for you, that is so awesome!!! I might have to try it out . . . I'm really good at working out, but not so good at not eating treats. Did you get the book, or how did you learn all the rules and everything of the diet?
Well, for those of you who haven't seen April and Trent, let me be the first to say that it works they looks so awesome!!!
You totally talked me into trying this! Did you excercise too? Because I HATE excersizing. So if I could just cut back on carbs and lose that much, that would be awesome! Good for you guys!
That's awesome that you found something that works for you guys! Keep up the good work!! :)
I think it is fantastic to find a "diet" that really works for your body and that you feel like it is something that you can do for the rest of your lives. That is the peoblem with fad diets, like anyone can do them forever. I am proud of you. I hope that you are able to keep it up and I wish you the best.
You guys look so good. Erik and I were talking about it, and we were like, we should try it! just to get healthy, thats so great. Thats good that you can feel such a difference. good luck!
Good job, April! You deserve it!
Holy cow...that is awesome!!! And it even sounds reasonable...some of these diets are nuts- but that isn't bad!! Good for you- I think you've earned that cute skirt from Downeast....! :)
