I have been tagged to do a Marriage MeMe. I hope you enjoy. Some of my entries are long, but I love detail.Where did you meet your husband:
Trent and I meet back in April of 1999 a few months before his mission. I was working at Zuka Juice and I was graduating in a month. He came in with a bunch of friends, luckily I was the only girl working that night so I got them all to myself. Honestly, I was looking at Trent the whole time. I thought he was the cutest and nicest one of the bunch. I knew they were good guys because they were talking about their mission calls. What also excited me about them was that they were in a band and Trent was the lead guitarist, so sexy. One of Trents friends asked for my number and said it was for his friend. I didn't know which friend, but I hoped it was Trent so I gave it to them.
What was the first thing you said to your husband?
Well because I was working at Zuka juice, probably, "Welcome to Zuka juice, what can I get you."
Where was the first date?
Bare with me, this ones a long one, but really good.
Well I have to explain how we finally got on a date. Remember, one of his friends came in and asked for my phone # but I didn't know for who. So one day, actually the night before I was graduating, I was having a party/sleepover with all the other SBO's at my house getting ready for the last day of school, when I got a phone call. My mom said she didn't know who it was. I had been waiting for this phone call for sometime, I think a few weeks. He said his name was Trent, and I died. See, here's the thing I didn't remember what his name was, but I just had a feeling it was him. I seriously got butterflies so bad, I was so excited, I remember not being able to breath, (he could probably tell on the phone.) So long story short he asked me out for the next day, but I had to tell him I was graduating, then he said, well how about next weekend, I again had to explain that I would be on my Senior trip. So he said he'd call me when I got back.
Well, he did call me and we finally went on a date. Seriously the best date ever. And the best part was that I still wasn't sure which guy it was, so when he came to get me, I was so excited to see that it was really him. We went to Antelope Island and had a BBQ with his friends and played games there. We walked around the smelly beach, and he even picked me up because there were a few dead seagulls laying around and I was so grossed out. Trent too this day remembers what I wore on that date, I didn't even remember. He said he was in love with me from the beginning, that's why he remembers. So cute huh.
When he drove me home, I thought I was going to die, because he wasn't looking at the road he was looking at me the whole time. And if anyone has ever looked into Trent's baby blue eyes, well, you know, they are the best. He dropped me off at my door and gave me a hug and asked me out for the next weekend. Of course I said yes. I walked in the door and died. I immediately ran to my parents room and told them I was going to marry him. My mom said that's exactly what her and her mom said on their firsts dates.
Where and when was your first kiss?
Well, we dated all summer. Our first date was at the end of May and he was leaving on his mission on September 1st. He never kissed me or held my hand once before his mission. Yes, I know you might ask, what? But I am a chicken and would never, obvouisly pull the first move. We dated tons, I didn't date anyone else and neither did he, but neither of us knew that at the time. He told me he never kissed me before his mission because he was too afraid that I wouldn't be here when he got back and he like me too much. His mom even told me that while he was gone.
I wrote him the whole mission, even go to talk with him a few times. When he got back I went to the airport and then we went on a date a few nights later. Well, he kissed the night of that date and it was not just a little peck it was a big ol' kiss. I guess he had to make up for lost times. THe cutest thing was that he said, "April, what would you do if I finally kissed you?" I didn't know what to say, so he just kissed me. It was good.
Did you have a long or short courtship/engagement?
Kind of long. I waited for two years for him. When he came back in September of 2001 I was actually dating someone, but broke up shortly after. I didn't call Trenton until November to tell him and see if he still wanted to see me. He said he did, but that he was really heart broken, so it took sometime. We started dating in December and got serious right away. He didn't ask me to marry him until August 30th 2002. I waited forever, but he was worth it. We were then married in December 2002.
Where did you get engaged?
We were at my cousins wedding reception in Provo. I wanted to stay and dance, but we had to leave because I was watching some kids in my ward while their parents were gone. I got permission to leave them while I went to the reception. On the way back, Trent asked me if I wanted to go somewhere and dance. Of course I did, so we drove up Farmington Canyon, we always went up there to go 4-wheeling. He pulled up to a ledge looking out of the city and pulled out his guitar. He said he had been writing a song about me. He started playing and singing. At that minute I knew he was going to ask me. The song was beautiful. I have it on CD. When the song was over he put the guitar away and said we better go. I was shocked I really thought he was going to ask me. So as I started to walk back to the car, he called me and when I turned around, he was on his knee with the ring. Oh my, I died, starting shaking and crying immediately. He said all this cute stuff and then asked me to marry him. I of course said yes. Then we danced. I had a perma-grin on my face, seriously, my facial muscles hurt. I was so happy.
Where did you get married?
We were married on December 21, 2002 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. It was the coldest day and gloomy, but did finally snow for the reception. Perfect day.
How did the reception go?
The reception was fabulous and so beautiful. We had the reception at Ivy Lane, an old mansion. It was decorated so beautifully. We had so many family and friends there. Our reception went over by I think and hour or more, just because of the line. We had fun, but were ready for it to be over. My colors were red, black, and white, for Christmas. And we served hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls, perfect for the snowy weather.
How was the honeymoon?
The honeymoon was great. Trent surprised me with the location. I didn't know where we were going until the night before, so that I could pack. The only bad part about it, was that we almost didn't get to go. I was seriously ill. I have asthma and got a major cold that turned into pneumonia. We got married on Dec. 20Th but didn't leave until Dec 26Th so that we could spend Christmas at home. I almost had to go to the hospital, but I fought it and we were able to go. The only thing was that I had to take tons of medicine with me and have breathing treatments three times a day, not fun or sexy for your honeymoon. We went to Jackson Hole and Yellowstone. So fun. We did a whole day of snowmobiling, say the sites, and just hung out.
I am tagging anyone and everyone who would like to do the Marriage Meme.
